DAY ONE - Friday

On your midday arrival into Echuca, head to High Street in the port precinct. Here, ease into the weekend with lunch at Monkee amp; Co, a vibrant Asian fusion restaurant. The menu blends traditional and contemporary flavours from Vietnam, China, Malaysia and Thailand, with dishes designed to share. Grab a table outside to watch the town go by or settle onto the riverside deck overlooking the Campaspe River.

Afternoon

This afternoon, explore the region on two wheels with Green Pedal Cycles’ guided e-bike tour.

Led by local guide David, the ride offers a relaxed way to experience the landscape and stories of the region. Pedal through Echuca’s historic port precinct, cross the Murray River and soak up the scenic country route.

Today’s Bike to Winery Guided Tour takes you to family-run local favourite, St Anne’s Winery, where you’ll enjoy tasting award-winning wines produced right here in the Murray region.

Relax with a ploughman’s platter and take in the vista where St Anne’s grapes are grown and crafted.

The return journey takes a different route via Moama Beach and Horseshoe Lagoon, where the Murray River winds past towering river red gums.

Arriving back at the Port precinct, it’s time to check-in to your accommodation because your night is about to kick off at Bar Lee, a restaurant and bar within the award-winning Echuca Distillery.

Evening

This welcoming venue celebrates locally crafted spirits and seasonal produce, with a menu full of modern dishes all designed for sharing. Choose between indoor dining, alfresco seating or the rooftop deck for a relaxed atmosphere.

From the restaurant you can get a peak at Lavender, the distillery’s Italian-made copper still, at work crafting small-batch spirits including gin, flavoured vodka and liqueurs.

Guided by the philosophy “Drink less - enjoy more,” Echuca Distillery focuses on quality over quantity, producing craft spirits made from pure spirit and naturally derived botanicals.

DAY TWO - Saturday

Morning

Start the day like a local by joining Parkrun, a free and friendly 5km community event held along the Campaspe River. Walk, jog or run at your own pace.

Refuel with breakfast at The Sweet Meadow, a popular vegetarian café that even meat eaters will love!

On market weekends get up close and personal with regional growers and artisans at the Echuca Farmers Market. Here, regional growers and makers share fresh produce, artisan cheeses, meats and handmade baked goods. When the market isn’t running, Rich Glen Provedore is a must for regional produce and gourmet goodies to take home (if they make it that far).

With fresh produce in hand, it’s the perfect excuse for a riverside picnic.

Five minutes from town, Moama Beach offers grassy picnic spots overlooking a sandy riverbank with views back towards the historic wharf. This is a great spot to watch Echuca’s famous paddlesteamers glide past.

Prefer something ready-made? Stop by Hammond Providore and pick up a fresh takeaway lunch.

Afternoon

Step into an unexpected slice of Australian culture at The Great Aussie Beer Shed and Heritage Farm Museum.

This one-of-a-kind attraction features more than 20,000 beer cans from around the world alongside farm machinery, horse-drawn carriages, classic cars, a Coca- Cola collection and a partially restored World War I cannon.

Owner and local character, Neil Thomas, brings his treasures to life through spirited storytelling and plenty of laughs. At the end of your visit, enjoy a drink at the licensed bar before heading back to your accommodation.

Evening

Dinner at OPA Echuca introduces another layer of culture with hosts, Nick and Maria, welcoming guests with authentic Greek hospitality.

Locals Tip – Try the Saginaki – you’ll thank us!

The menu centres around traditional Greek mezze, served family-style to encourage conversation and connection around the table.

After dinner, discover a different side of Echuca’s history with the Port After Dark Tour. Visitors explore normally closed areas of the port and take part in stories of crime, ghost tales and hear of the darker chapters of frontier life in this river town.

If you’re feeling social, continue the evening at Paradise Bar, a cool cocktail bar known for its creative drinks and late-night vibe.

DAY THREE - Sunday

Morning

Rise early for one of Echuca Moama’s memorable experiences - a sunrise paddle with Echuca Moama Stand Up Paddleboarding.

As first light filters through river red gums, glide along the Murray River and experience the bird life waking around you. It’s a peaceful, invigorating way to connect with the river in all seasons.

After your paddle, head to Johnny amp; Lyle, where you’ll find locals lined up for the coffee (the best kind of recommendation). Take advantage of a relaxed brunch served with warm hospitality.

It’s only a short walk to Riverboat Dock to board the paddlesteamer, Canberra, for the Wharf to Winery Cruise.

Locals Tip – Look out for Echuca’s famous thong tree as you board the boat!

The 30-minute cruise onboard the beautifully restored timber paddlesteamer is hosted by a captain sharing stories of the region’s river trade history. It is not long and you are at your destination, Morrisons Winery, where a chef-inspired two-course lunch is served with a complimentary drink overlooking the vineyard.

Afternoon

The return cruise delivers you back to Riverboat Dock in time for an afternoon exploring Echuca’s creative spaces.

Visit The Foundry Arts Space, within the restored Freeman’s Foundry building, where rotating exhibitions showcase works ranging from painting to mixed-media installations.

Nearby, Whistle Stop Studio Gallery offers the chance to watch artist, Glenda Cornell, at work creating pieces inspired by the Murray River, paddlesteamers and local wildlife. The MarraMarra Gallery, an Aboriginal family-owned multi-clan gallery, showcases works from multiple First Nations across Victoria and beyond.

After a busy day exploring, take the chance to relax at your accommodation before dinner or if you’re keen to soak up the sunset, stop by The Social Wine Bar for a pre-dinner drink. With sweeping views across the Campaspe River, the courtyard is a popular spot to meet locals and unwind beneath a century-old pine tree.

Evening

Dinner is at The American Hotel, Echuca’s historic corner pub, welcoming locals and travellers since 1865.

Mixing traditional country hospitality with a contemporary twist you can enjoy classic pub favourites in the main bar, or head upstairs to Thelma’s Lounge, where the menu features seasonal plates and barbecue flavours from the grill alongside a can’t resist curated cocktail list.

DAY FOUR - Monday

Morning

Ease into your final day with a relaxed breakfast at Essen, a dining destination set within a beautifully restored heritage mechanical engineering workshop.

The name Essen means “to eat” in German, reflecting the Oberin family’s passion for food, wine, community and their cultural heritage.

Then take time to discover the river town’s past at the Port of Echuca Museum and Wharf.

During the 1870s, Echuca was Australia’s third largest port behind Sydney and Melbourne. A guided tour brings this remarkable era to life, sharing stories of the colourful characters who helped shape the river trade.

Explore hidden spaces including an underground bar and escape tunnel once used to evade police, and experience working displays that demonstrate the power of steam that once drove the paddlesteamers.

Locals tip –stand on top of the Echuca Wharf with one foot in Victoria and one in NSW – a great spot for a selfie!

Make sure you also explore the museum exhibits and enjoy sweeping views of the Mighty Murray River from the top of the historic wharf.

Afternoon: 

Just across the street is lunch spot, Beekeeper’s Table.

Home to My Dad’s Honey, producers of certified organic Australian honey, the café’s menu celebrates local ingredients and its signature honey products.
