Facilities and getting around

When looking for public toilets, there is a Changing Places toilet located in the High Street Carpark. These toilets are designed for those with high support needs while travelling, and include things like a ceiling track hoist system and a height-adjustable adult-sized change table. The video below describes more about these facilities:

Campaspe Shire's Mobility Map shows the locations for public conveniences and carparks in Echuca. It'll help in planning your trip and navigating central Echuca before you arrive. Find the map here.

Walks and trails

One of the most popular access-friendly walks is the Port of Echuca Walk.

With flat, sealed or compacted quartz sand paths and disability toilets, the Port of Echuca is a scenic spot for a relaxed stroll or roll by the river.

Victoria Walks has undertaken a review of this 3.04 kilometre trail and given it a five-star rating. Their review with imagery of the accessible features along the way can be found here.

Another scenic option is the Campaspe River Forest Accessible Walk. It'll take you around 1 hour to really take it all in. This walk or roll beside the Campaspe River travels the flat top half of the Campaspe River Walk through marvellous River Red Gum forest right in the heart of Echuca.

Victoria Walks has also reviewed this trail with a four-star rating. Their review with imagery of the accessible features along the way can be found here.

River Days

Love the River? The Victoria Park Boat Ramp upgrade allows you to experience the river with a safe and accessible boat launch and retrieval point for anglers, campers, water skiers, houseboating holidaymakers, canoeists, power boat enthusiasts, jet skiers and nature-lovers to easily access the Murray River.

Facilities include an all-abilities walkway ramp and a floating dock. The dock includes a crane to assist wheelchair users into boats.

In addition to the boat ramp upgrades, an electric BBQ, new wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, a bike maintenance rack, bike racks and an E-bike charging station have been installed, and the car park has been modified to improve traffic flow through the car park.

Almost all of the self-guided Port of Echuca Museum and Wharf experience is wheelchair accessible. There is one section (roughly 5 minutes or less) of the daily Guided Tours that is not accessible. This is when the group goes underneath the Star Hotel to the underground bar. If you are happy to wait above ground at the entrance of the Star Hotel, tour guides will always come back and pick you up for the rest of the tour.  Paddlesteamer cruises can generally be accessed with assistance from staff during the boarding and disembarking process - as access can be dependent on river levels and which boat is cruising on the day we always recommend speaking to the friendly staff at the Port of Echuca Musuem for advice.
