Gunbower
Located in the north-west, Gunbower is renowned as the gateway to Australia’s largest inland island – more than 50km long, the aptly named Gunbower Island. An abundance of native animals including marsupials, mammals and reptiles inhabit the island, sharing the space with over 160 species of birds including the rare and endangered.
Gunbower is surrounded by picturesque meandering creeks and waterways - offering a retreat for nature-lovers featuring great fishing and bird watching spots.
Kayaking and canoeing is a popular pastime, with two key paddling events on Gunbower’s annual calendar – the Black Swan race in March and Massive Murray Paddle in November.
The Gunbower Lions Park is a relaxing lunch stop, now featuring a natural mural featuring some of the feathered friends & floral renowned to the area, complimented across the road at the Gunbower Hotel by renowned graffiti artist Jimmy D’vate’s large scale dedication to the town.
There are several camping spots in the area, plus boutique accommodation.

Girgarre is a small rural community that is building a bright future through their events calendar and the introduction of Gargarro botanical gardens and events space.
The famous Farmers' Produce and Craft Market is a great family friendly day out. Relax and listen to live music while enjoying breakfast, free tea or coffee or sample from the many and varied food stalls. With up to an astounding 120 stalls, the market provides visitors and locals with the chance to sample the finest local small seasonal producers, alongside a range of artisan goods, arts and crafts.
Across from the market, is Gargarro Botanic Gardens. A project that is in its infancy but envisions the creation of a unique and world class botanical installation celebrating indigenous flora and precious water resources. The impressive Gargarro sound shell, creates the perfect event, live music and public exhibition space that is already well utilised with many annual events – or simply a great place to go for a walk or sit and relax.

Cohuna
Cohuna, located on the Murray Valley Highway between Echuca and Swan Hill, is a scenic township situated on the banks of Gunbower Creek, which forms the border of Gunbower Island.
Upon your arrival drop into the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre to discover things to do during your stay. The modern visitor information hub provides brochures, maps and details about the region. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and weekends and public holidays from 10am to 2pm (closed special public holidays).
Cohuna’s main street provides a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Take some time to browse retail stores and giftware before grabbing some lunch to enjoy along the waterfront.
Cool down along the sandy shores of Cohuna Beach at Apex Park. The perfect location for swimming, kayaking and a picnic with family and friends. The park offers an all-abilities adventure playground, impressive skate park and modern BBQ facilities and is only a short walk from Cohuna Waterfront Holiday Park, free RV campsite and main shopping strip.
The majestic Gunbower National Park and Gunbower State Forest provide a picturesque natural bush setting for campers who regularly visit the area. The majority of visitors spend time relaxing in their riverside camps, bushwalking, fishing, bird watching or kayaking along the creek. The many walking and cycling tracks in the Gunbower forest are accessible from Cohuna and the many campsites along the Murray River or Gunbower Creek provide a real nature based experience.
Water sports are popular on the Gunbower Creek just upstream of town with visitors returning annually for their water-based holidays.
